Intrecciato is Bottega Veneta's signature woven leather. Strips of nappa or other leather are hand-woven in a tight grid pattern that defines the brand's visual identity. The strip width and weave density determine the model variant: Maxi Intrecciato (wide strips, dramatic look) vs Standard Intrecciato (narrow strips, classic look). History

Founded in 1966 in Vicenza, Bottega Veneta introduced Intrecciato in the 1970s. The technique was originally developed to weave calfskin offcuts into usable surfaces — a wartime resource-efficiency idea that became the brand's signature. Daniel Lee's tenure (2018-2021) elevated Maxi Intrecciato into the dominant aesthetic of the brand's modern revival.

How to identify

Look for hand-woven strip texture, with visible diagonal crossings where strips intersect. Genuine Intrecciato has slight variation in strip alignment — too-perfect uniformity is a counterfeit tell. Maxi strips are typically 12-18mm wide; Standard 6-8mm.

Price impact

Maxi Intrecciato commands a 20-40% premium over Standard Intrecciato on equivalent models due to the larger labor input and the Daniel-Lee-era aesthetic prestige. Cassette Mini Maxi-Intrecciato consistently trades above its retail.
