What we do
Bagonomics tracks the global luxury handbag market with the same kind of rigor that equity research and wine investment data have brought to other categories. We build proprietary indexes, aggregate cross-platform pricing, document discontinuation events, and publish methodology so anyone can audit our work.
We are not a marketplace. We do not sell handbags. We do not republish individual sale listings. Every metric you see is a statistical aggregate over many data points — never a single source identifiable.
Why this exists
Luxury handbags trade in volumes that rival mid-cap equities. Hermès, Chanel, and Louis Vuitton produce billions in primary sales annually; the secondary market is a multi- billion-dollar ecosystem. Yet there is no Bloomberg for it — no place where you can see a calibrated index, a transparent methodology, and consistent cross-platform data.
PurseBlog and Hodinkee-equivalents are editorial. WatchCharts exists for watches. Liv-ex covers wine. Hagerty owns vintage cars. Handbags have never had their data layer. We're building it.
Principles
- Statistical aggregates, not prices. We never republish individual listings. Medians, percentiles, sample sizes — never a single sale's URL.
- Transparent methodology. Every index has a published construction document. Rebalances are announced. Composition changes are logged.
- Public data, properly credited. Auction house results, brand retail prices, exchange rates. Aggregated, normalized, attributed where applicable.
- Free to access, free to cite. Public API for partners and journalists. Embeddable widgets. No paywall on the core data layer.
- Editorial independence. Affiliate links exist on some pages. They do not influence our pricing analysis, index composition, or ranking.
What we don't do
We don't give investment advice. We don't recommend specific purchases. We don't act as agents or brokers. We don't authenticate individual items (we publish authentication rates per platform). We don't run a marketplace. We don't sell user data.
